im looking to upgrade my system so i can run some of the newer games out without any issues my current specs are

dell dimension 5000
windows XP home
128mb radeon x300
512mb ram
pentium 4 3.0ghz

i was looking at this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-065-HT&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=404

i just dont know wether my power supply can handle it, cause it says the card has lower power consumption but i cant seem to find what voltage my power supply is. i will also be getting 2gb of ram, will my specs be able to cope with the new card?

Most stock powersupplies are bewtween 250-300watts. Mine was 250watts and that was on a newer hp. I would say yours is 250w maybe and that power supply most likely could handle it but, you wouldnt get the most out of that card with a stock psu. You ram is also what is holding you back. I would get atleast a gig more of ram.

if i got a PSU over 600 watt and 2gb of ram would i be able to get one of the high-end graphics cards like a 8800gt or one of the radeons or would my processor slow it down?

an 8800GT only needs like a 400 watt. but get a 500 just to be safe if you were to get one.

and yes, i wold say that your cpu would bottleneck it.

I would say your processor is fine. A 600w psu is fine as thats what i have and with 2gb of ram you will see a huge performance increase on startup and multi-tasking. Are you sure your mobo supports pci-e? Well how old is your pc?

my pentium d 3.4ghz dual core bottlenecks my 8800GT. so his 3ghz single core will.

if a 600 watt is cheaper then get it. otherwise its not necesary. not needed.

Just about every cpu will bottleneck a graphics card but, if hes gonna get a new cpu he might as well build or buy a whole new computer. If you were to do that, dont get another dell!!

Gotcha! I apologize. I need to learn currency exchanges. LOL. Wow, thats a really good deal on that 9600. I think i should save for one but, i could probably get one cheaper on ebay. I might buy another 8600 for backup if i can find one cheap on ebay though.

will the XFX Geforce 7800GTX run ok on the 305watt power supply in my system now? or can anyone reccomend some decent cards that run ok with 305watt because i hard you can change the power supply

I am running a xfx 8600gt xxx zalman and it is recommended that you have a 350watt psu but i think a 305watt should handle it. Psu's are cheap anyway if you dont need an sli one. I got mine for $70 and it is sli compatible and is 600watts.
