New Graphics card.

Hi, so i have decided to upgrade my graphics crad becouse the old one is overheating and slow. This card is NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT 512mb SILENT.

And the new card i want to buy is Sparkle GeForce GT240, 1GB, GDDR2, 128bit.
And i want to know will that card be good for my pc which is pretty old.

Windows XP
IntelCore2Duo E4500 @2.20ghz, 2210mhz
NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT 512mb SILENT (nothing is overclocked btw)
PCI-Express x16
2gb ram DDR2
350mw psu

And i guess this should be enough but if there are anymore specs required tell me.

So i want to know if this pc can handle that card and if there are gona be any problems.This PC is mainly used for games.

And i also wanted to ask why i have only 1 core working, and only 1 is working when playing games, So what could cause that? And how to fix it.

The games you play may only need to utilize one core.

You tell us nothing about your motherboard, i.e. make and model.

You'll also most likely need a more powerful psu. The 240 cards aren't all that powerful for gaming.
 
I'd prefer the gts 250 but if the 8500 has been working then the 240 will be a nice step up! Download cpuz from cpuid.com and see if it shows your correct processor and shows it as 2 cores. When you look at the performance tab in task manager does it show 2 cpu's make sure that in the options it shows one graph per cpu before you say no lol. If all is well then it probably is the games you are playing tho I play some pretty old games and have no problems like this. What are you trying to play, your motherboard supports pcie 2.0 correct? What OS are you using? Definitely need to know what make and model of the power suppy but the 240 only requires a minimum PSU of 300w (given that the PSU is able to sustain the given rating). Anything more than 300 and you should be fine.

My motherboard is Intel Lakeport-G i945G
And PSU is Enlight GPS-350AB C.

But i think i am gona stay with gt240 if it suits my PC.
I am not a gamer so i just need a pc to play most games at normal framerates on low-mid settings

And i mentioned before that my card is overheating like around 100C when playing games (depends on game, some have only 80C+) i was wondering could the overheating problem go to new card aswell if there isnt problem in my graphics card?And why could my card be overheating i know it is SILENT so it should be hot, but i think at 100C i can cook eggs on my card :D My case is opened so air could get to it and my CPU temps are around 30C
 
Not unless its getting to much voltage but its most likely that your video card is old/dusty. Though don't rule it out that there is an underlying cause. If you get HW monitor you can check all the voltages coming from your psu / pull out the multi-meter if you like to do it that way.
 
Yes, it is really old and could be dusty cause i dont clean it very often. And i checked HWmonitoring and voltages seem to be fine...

But still my question was if i buy gt240 , will it run good for my old PC?

You shouldn't have a problem there. The only thing to worry about is if the gpu bottlenecks the other components but its not such a high end gpu that you need to be concerned. What OS are you using, I didn't see it listed?
