Hey guys, n00b here. I just bought a used Compaq Athlon 3800 w/ 2gb RAM, 512 ATI, and two hard drives, The stock one was a seagate 160gb and theres a secondary one in there a WD1600jb. I had some problems cause the guy I bought it from installed it and never tested the new hard drive so now I'm stuck to figure it out. So here goes. I played with the jumpers, eventually I found that leaving the jumper out allowed the computer to work since I would get a disk read error if I had the jumper in the slave slot. However, I also noticed that my CD/DVD is not recognized by the computer. I tried playing around with the jumpers there and still nothing. One thing of note though was when I had the jumper in the slave slot for the new HD and the jumper in the #2 slot on the CD/DVD I wouldnt get the disk read error and it would boot up. Can anyone help me? I would like the computer to recognize both the new HD and the CD/DVD. Thanks

You have two IDE ports on the motherboard: Primary and Secondary. The primary to the left; secondary to the right (I believe). Set your DVD drive to master and install the drive on the Primary IDE port. Leave the second cable unattached. On the secondary port, set the seagate to master and the WD to slave.

Gosh! Beat me to it! Your motherboard should say which is which if you look at the fine print by those ports and it should say which is secondary and which is primary. Good Luck!

Lol, Im workin my way on up ;) I literally turned around to do something real quick after reading his post then looked back and there your reply! Like a ninja! Woosh!
