New hard drive doesn't show up

Bought a new external WD 1tb hard drive.

Plugged it in but nothing is showing up in my computer, etc. etc. ONLY in computer management does it show it. It has a black bar running across and it says "Unallocated".

My only options are:
New Simple Volume (if I click on the "unallocated" box)

And on the left side under Disk #
Convert to dynamic disk
Convert to MBR disk

I want to use this mainly as a backup. I tried doing dynamic disk and it said it won't let me do that...

Please help!

Just set it as a new simple volume and format it as NTFS.
