New hard drive, fresh install

So I got me F3 500GB today, got it working, and created 30GB partition with no problems. So now I have 3 drives, 30GB(OS) 435GB(Samsung F3) and my old drive with some stuff on it. I thought 30GB would be enough just for OS but it keeps getting bigger and bigger :/ I installed all the software to the D drive and still it grows and grows, Can I change something so Windows think that D drive is the default for saving everything, hibernation files etc.

I wouldn't make the partition for the OS and programs any less then say 50-60 gb depending on how many programs you will install. It doesn't make sense to have OS on one partition and programs on another as some programs will only install to the c drive and can't be changed. If you have a 500 gb drive, then partition so much for OS and programs then the balance of the drive for your data.
 
I decided to not have any partitions at all, less hasle. I got another problem though. When I want to change Boot sequence in BIOS to the Samsung drive first, the system does not boot, I get BOOTMGR is missing :/
 
It looks like when you reinstalled did you installed to your second drive. You should be able to delete the 30GB partition and merge the space into your 435GB one but if you want to OS on there you'll have to install again.

I am not bothered tbh. The 30GB used to be my OS but it kept getting bigger, so I reinstalled it on the big partition, I'll keep the 30GB for something else. My problem is that when I unplug my old drive (F) I get BOOTMGR error and can not boot at all.
 
I probably was editing my post when you were posting so I'm guessing you didn't see my change. I looked at the screenshot too quickly, when I looked at it again I saw that you installed windows to your F drive. You'll have to reinstall if you want it on the 500GB drive.
 
The OS used to be on F drive. I had two fresh reinstall reinstalls last night. I think it is something to do with the old drive saying SYSTEM.
 
When installing windows and you have more than one drive in your system, it always best to unhook them until after the install is done, that way everything gets installed right and no boot files gets put on a different drive. The boot files always go on the C drive no matter what I think. And since you are unplugging c, then it won't boot.

Hopefully that made sense. In your case I would do one more fresh install with only the os drive plugged in.
 
Right. I backuped all my files, does this mean that if I am finished installing the OS I'll have all the stuff I have now? Like installed software etc


P.S. I may not even bother with reinstall just now, everything is working. I'll reinstall once the OS becomes slow.
 
How did you back it up? Unless you made a drive image before something bad happened then everything would have to be reinstalled.
 
It's the Win7 backup system, you are right, it only backs up stuff like music, documents and pictures. I won't be reinstalling as things are right now, no need for it.
