Ok so i just bought a new computer...it has more than enough hard drive space...its 200 GB...but my old computer thats no good now has a 80GB hard drive in it with all my movies/tv shows/music/ adn what not in it...my question is do i just stick the old hd in the new computer and ill have all my old stuff? or would that make my computer have two windows? i dont know how these things work..basically i just want to put my old hard drive in my new ocmputer wihtout having two window xp ? am i making sense or is this a question for the hall of shame?

of course its not for the hall of shame, its a very common qquestion asked but still a sensible one.

The answer, is yes. you can take your old hard drive and stick it in your new one. however, the newer drive will have to be set as MASTER and the old one set as SLAVE. If you read the labels on the hard drives it will tell you how to do this.

Be warned that doing this will most probably void any warranty you have on the newly bought computer.

isnt there something ..i think like a case or something i can purchase to make the internal hard drive a usb hard drive ...then just transfer my stuff from there to my 200 gb hard drive?

Yeh, something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817155705

Not that I'm recommending that particular product, just search for '3.5" external IDE case'.

You'll need to set your hard drive jumper to master, but other than that it's pretty much plug and play. They tend to be extremely delicate, though.

Great if you want to keep the other drive as a portable drive, but a little expensive just to transfer some files.
