New Hard drive

Hey guys,

I am fixing my dads PC which he built himself.
Last weekend the hard drive was making a weird noise and would not start up sooo we went and bought a new one because I knew it was dead.

We now have a SATA hard drive and had to buy an adapter to be able to connect it to the tower itself as it was a different connection.

My problem is...
I can not boot Windows AT ALL
I have tried a USB boot and a DVD with a iso image burnt to it. Changed the boot order and unplugged certain features and so on but it just wont boot!
I am not that computer savvy when it comes to things like this as in the past I have just plugged in a hard drive and away it went.

It just goes to the black screen saying reboot or insert a proper boot device.

ANY help at all will be so appreciated.

First, I'm assuming you have the Windows installed on the new hard drive?

Then, why don't you try and entering safe mode to bypass the "frozen" moment?

Unless you "cloned" the old drive to the new, the new drive won't be able to boot until you install Windows on it. Since you said that the old drive was dead I assume you are trying to boot the Windows DVD to do the install.

Did you change the boot order in the BIOS to tell it to boot from the DVD drive first? You need to do that, then when you boot you'll see a prompt on the screen telling you to "Press any key to boot from CD...". When you see that prompt, press Enter and it should boot into the Windows installer.
