New Harddrive and XP SP1

I just got a new hardrive today, which I will be using as a slave drive. The drive is 250 gb. My question is, I have an older computer, probably 4 years old or so and I'm worried that the drive might not work with it. I have xp with Service Pack 2 on it. I heard that if I have SP1 installed than the drive will work fine. Will I have any hang-ups with my bios or will the SP1 take care of that?

use the software that came with the hardrive and you will still be able to use all the space even if the controller doesnt support it.
