New HD for this Mobo

Built a computer few years back. Came back from boot camp to find it not working, possibly HD fried? So I am looking to get a new HD so I can give it to my brother.

Motherboard:
MB ASUS M3A32-MVPDELUXE/WIFI

Old Hard Drive was:
HD 500G|ST 7K 32M SATA2 ST3500320AS

Any recommendations for a HD that I can snag and throw in there to get it up and running again?

Fast - Seagate Hybrid Drive ST1000DX001

Standard - Western Digital WD10EZEX/ Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003

BTW, can you get into bios and 'see' the HDD?

Yeah before we jump to the hard drive replacement, what makes you think its the hard drive? What are your symptoms?

Been a few months since I tried to run it. I'll give it a whirl and let you know once I get back to my parents house in two weekends.

From what I remember, the screen would remain black and windows wouldn't fully load. Very vague I know lol.

Thanks!

While Booting, is goes to a black screen where it says " Reboot and Select proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key".

So I go in the BIOS page. I can see the ATAPI DVD A DH2 as the Primary IDE Slave. Nothing is detected in the Primary IDE Master, or the SATA slots.

Any ideas?

Make sure all connections are secure on the hard drive and motherboard. Have you tried seeing if the hard drive is detected in another system? Can you hear the drive spin up when powering on?

Edit. I deleted your new thread, no need for a second thread about this.

I Just tried, sounds faint. Been so long since I have used this computer.

Unplugged it from the power supply and motherboard and then hooked it back up. Still having the same issue.

Also noticed that a diode was resting on the psu fan guard. Not sure if this would have something to do with it seeing as im still able to turn the system on.

I see the CD Drive in the slave spot. But nothing is in the Master spot. Boot priority is set to Hard Drive first. Safe to say, the motherboard is picking up the Hard Drive?

Try connecting another hard drive to the system and see if it detects it. If it doesn't, you have a bad motherboard.

Dont have another hard drive. Only the one that is in it. So it comes down to starting with either the MB or the HD? I tried swapping out the red cable that connected between the MB and HD and still nothing, even tried swapping the cable between the Dif SATA slots. Didnt show up anywhere.

If it was a bad motherboard, then it shouldnt detect the CD drive, or my ram, etc.?

Different parts on the motherboard can go bad. Until you do more diagnosing like connecting another hard drive to verify that the drive is not an issue.

Thank you for the responses. Would you also recommend the HD's for this MOBO that were suggested earlier in the posts?

I recommend any 64 mb cache drive from Western digital or seagate. Don't recommend hitachi/Toshiba drives.
