new hd install question, i think i got it now

heres a pic of the drive

the cables you posted dont look like they would fit in there? also, the drive says on it...
"Master/Slave jumper not required for SATA jumpered pins 3 and 4 enabled PUIS (Power Up In Standby)"

so i just get a cable the connects the drive and then into one of the white or black plugs and im set?

In that picture, on the top (would be the left side of the drive if held upright) there are two plugs.. the longer of the two is power, the shorter one is data.. data plugs into the motherboard, the black or the white SATA plug, and the power plugs into your power supply.

In other words.
You use the Sata power connector, if your power supply does not have one you will need one of these

You got the cables right, Your board is a Sata 1.5 and the drive is a Sata 3.0. most 3.0 drives will run just fine on a 1.5 port, but W/D gives you the option to use the jumper to make the drive a 1.5 for compatibility

i have an extra power cable, but i dont believe i have an extra data cable. and what you just said about the jumper, and 1.5 and the drive being 3, makes no sense to me lol. would you mind explaining what you are saying?

alright, that makes sense. but how come i dont need a jumper? everything ive read about installing a new drive says to put a jumper to make it the slave drive.

Sata doesnt have master and slave, just one drive per slot, IDEs have master and slave because you can put 2 drives on each cable

Yeap, as long as your power supply has the Sata power connector, if not you will need one of those power adapters too.
