im lookign fo a new HD and i want it to be about 250gb, and it has to be sata, i was wondering if i bought a sata HD, and my comp uses sata ports is there anything i could go wong with......
and what exactly is sata2?

if your motherboard has SATA ports than yes, it will work. And SATA2 is supposably faster than SATA but you can't tell all that well.

Seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital are all good brands.

SATAII (or SATA2) is backwards compatible with SATA.

My suggestions:
Make sure to get 7200RPM, as well as 16MB of cache. SATAII is also worth it, even if your motherboard doesn't support it, because you can use SATAII for your next computer

Well arent all sata and sata boards capible, like on a plain sata board wouldnt it jsut not take advantage of the sata2 feature?

when i buy hard drives i just make sure they have 8 or 16mb buffer, theyre sata150 or sata2, and i normally end up going with seagate or western digital, but maxtor is good too.

i bought a hitachi deskstar once, and learned that its nicknamed the hitachi deathstar... it was defective... haha
