New HDD woes...

Okay, so my motherboard has 4 SATA and 3 IDE spots. I have 2 SATA harddrives and 1 SATA DVD burner, so I decide to branch out and buy an IDE harddrive. I went into the bios and changed the drive type from "SATA only" to "Combined", however I can't get the new drive to show up. Ive had it in all three of the IDE slots and I've messed around with the master/slave jumper with no luck. Any suggestions? :confused: BTW, I'm using XP Pro.
 
Cant cross sata hd with ide hd in the same system.. Need to convert it from ide to sata. Just return the ide and get a sata drive
 
Don't think that's right. My bios has the SATA only, IDE only, and a combined mode allowing both. There's some other setting that I can't find.
 
Get a Sata Drive m8 ....ive got sata and Ide on my Mobo but im just using all IDE and NO Ide ....but my M8 is using Sata And IDE For Hard drive and DVD the HDD is Sata and Ide for DVD ROm

WTF?? :rolleyes: I know it's late and I'm a little tired (3 in the morning here), but you're "just using all IDE and NO ide"? :eek: I'm not really picking up what you're puttin down if you catch my drift. I really would just like to get it working as it should.

Yes m8 using all IDE ..NO Sata ....I dont know about sata drives but i like IDE Drives more ......do u have a problem with that m8

If you dont know about SATA drives how can you say you like IDE more? :P

Not true, i have a 200gb sata drive and a 40gb IDE drive. Both work fine.
 
well maybe it is a dell thing. I used the sata (primary) and ide (secondary) on cable and the hd was extremely slow. Got the converter, and not it works like a sata. Maybe on dell....

I don't have a preference one or the other. I just want them to work as they should. :)
