hey everyone.new to the forums here....im going to be building my first PC so you might see me asking questions from time to time...right now im looking for a dual socket motherboard (server?) that can support 2 quad core CPU's that has usb 3.0 and be able to over clock.

why do you want a dual socket mobo? and you'll have to tell us what cpu's your looking to put in it along with anything you already have and your budget.

Unless you have a lot of money to burn or you need a server, there's no real point in a dual socket board. Most games won't take advantage of more cores just yet, and by the time they do, your hardware will be outdated.

It is going to be very difficult to find a Dual Socket motherboard that can be overclocked.

And as for Dual Quads, look for Zambezi in a month and you can get a 8 core unlocked multiplier (easy OC) single socket processor. Would be worth a look.

Dude, no reason for a dual processor mobo, unless you want to go all out and get SR-2 with Dual Xeons... but your looking at 3k+ there

thanks everyone who posted!

ok yea i am not going sped 3k lol... my friend just got a very nice pc from his work,he works with computers and is very good with them as am i to a point (he went to school for it and i didnt) ...anyways the pc he got has 2 places for 2 CPU's and it runs like beast, im trying to build a pc that the motherboard will take 2 cpu's (server motherboard,rite?)....do i really need this for good gaming? i also do alot of ripping/converting audio/video files along with making my own personal music with Mic and software...im running a HP dc5800 SFF Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz (its the E7400) with 3GB of RAM....i cant OC because its a HP motherboard and im always maxing out my CPU, im just doing to much and it cant keep up that good....never heard of "Zambezi" is that the company who makes the CPU? i was looking at the AMD 6-core, any good?

EDIT: forgot to say that my friend said he might sell me that server pc he just got..it has 2 (1x1) quad core AMD 2.5GHz (not 100% sure) and i think he said 8GB RAM on a Gigabyte motherboard (can this brand be OC?)..all for $400

AMD makes the CPU line "Zambezi" in the CPUs line there is one 6 core, and two 8 core. You do not need two CPUs for good gaming, a quad core at 3.2Ghz such as the Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition is able to handle all modern day games such as FPS and so on. If you looking to start 200+ processes on your computer then you might want to look into a "Zambezi" but you most likely should only need a machine with the following specs:

CPU: Quad Core (AMD Phenom II x4/Intel Core i5)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950 or Up / Nvidia GTX 570 or Up
Motherboard: Supports 8Gb+ of DDR3 1600Mhz RAM and AM3/LGA1155
RAM: 8Gb+ of DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
PSU: 650w for single GPU, 850w for XFire/SLI
HDD/SSD: Depends on your needs, it sounds like you will need a large amount of storage because of video editing. I would recommend putting HDDs in a raid configuration for a large volume with decent speed. You could put your OS on a SSD for faster boot times and a more responsive OS.
ODD: If you need to write to bluray for your video editing the obviously you need a BD burner. If not you could go with either a BD reader or a DVD/CD burner.

well for the psu a good 600 and 750 not 650 and 850, but for the psu brand is everything, a cheap one will either fail and take everything with it ot go boom and take everything with it. and for gpu's a gtx560ti is great, a little less than the 6950, while the 570 is almost a 100 more than the 6950.

ok so i just ended up buying my buddys server for $300 instead of $400....Xeon Dual core at 2.6MHz intell 500V chipset, 8GB RAM, motherboard GA-7VCSV-RH...Im in search of a video card (onboard is 16MB!) its DDR2....looking for 1GB or higher with HDMI..fast processor speed for gaming and bluray and a lil more (not sure what my motherboard can handle?)...if i get a pic express 2.1 is it backwards compatible with 2.0 and so on?....i m looking a tthis video card now and it seems real nice..any input? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/XFX+-+A...uId=9984045&st=pci video card DDR2&cp=1&lp=10

Yes, all PCI-E is backwards compatible.

the 5450 is a budget card. Don't expect it to play much more than the original call of duty games.

You'll want at least a 6870 for gaming.
