New here, would like peoples opinions

I am no longer in college so hes in 8th grade and i am giving him this laptop and getting myself a new desktop. Figured id be nice to the little bugger. Plus this has office and a norton on it. Oh yeah, how is the security on vista premium? Is it decent enough as to if i know what im doing and where im going on the web i dont need any anti virus?

Oh right, that's nice of you! :D

I wouldn't bother with Norton to be honest! it uses a load of system resources and is slow to start up. I'd get something like AVG or Avast!

I would get an anti-virus, I don't think you could get away without using one?

Well, i dont know anything about vista premium but they said it has security features. Does it include windows defender? I would just be worried about spy/adware. Ive never had an intruder on my computer before. Does it come with a firewall also?

ok so dell is now telling me that i cant use aero with my graphics card because it is integrated, but i dont really trust them because theyve lied straight out to me before and i knew it. So whats your call? Will my setup run aero just fine?

On the intel site it says exactly this:

Desktop PC platforms based on the
Intel® G965 Express Chipset, combined with either the Intel® Core™2 Duo processor or Intel® Pentium® D processor, deliver innovative capabilities and usages for digital home consumers. Exciting improvements expand digital home capabilities, while enabling lower power and quieter systems.

Platforms based on the Intel® G965 Express chipset, when configured with memory devices of adequate amount and speed, meet all current requirements for the Windows Vista* Premium OS system logo.

So, im guessing dell is wrong then Because premium comes with aero?

The microsoft website says this:

Windows Vista Capable and Premium Ready Footnotes

Processor speed is specified as the nominal operational processor frequency for the device. Some processors have power management which allows the processor to run at lower rate to save power.

If the GPU uses shared memory, then no additional graphics memory is required beyond the 1 GB system memory requirement; If the GPU uses dedicated memory then 128MB is required.

A DVD-ROM may be external (not integral, not built into the system).

Sorry if im bugging anybody id just like to know if it will work or not, i just ordered the computer.

GMA X3000
The GMA X3000 represents a dramatic architectural change from previous GMA iterations. The X3000 adds hardware T&L units, pixel shaders, vertex shaders and WMV9 (VC-1) video acceleration. Intel claims the X3000 is Shader Model 3 compliant, and meets Microsoft's GUI requirements for Vista Aero Premium. Intel has released production version drivers for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista that enable the Aero graphics.

From Intel
3D enhancements enable greater game compatibility with support for Hardware T&L, and improved realism with support for Microsoft DirectX* 9.0c Shader Model 3.0, OpenGL* 1.5, and floating point operations. Intel graphics technology also support the highest levels of the Microsoft Vista* Aero experience.

Thanks. Do you think if i run update when i get the computer it will update the driver for the graphics card? Or if i go on the dell website or something? How do i know if i need to download it?

If your getting it as a upgrade buy buying a machine that has XP on it, its probably going to be the 32bit, if not it hard to tell, I would call and ask and see what mouse you picked.

Wait so, the chip itself with the old driver isnt compatable with aero, but once you download the new driver it is? Well dell is stupid then because they kept telling me it will not work at all because its a 64 bit something or other and you need at least 128 bit whatever it is. I tend to believe you guys more though.
