I've setup outlook before and easily linked it to gmail accounts but my new job has a .org address and we use outlook at work. Am I able to use the full outlook at home or do I need to use the web based version?
I'm not really understanding your question I guess. Why couldn't you use outlook at home? Your question doesn't make any sense. Can you elaborate? You can use any program you want to access your email.
Sorry, I meant to add that I've easily set up outlook thought gmail via pop but with exchange I can't seem to figure it out. Can't determine exchange server, nothing seems to work. if my address was [email protected] is the exchange name within that?
Your best bet would be to contact your network admin at your work and have him help you set that up if you are allowed external access to your work email.
You need to check what is externally available with your IT department / admin.
If your organisation has enabled Outlook Anywhere you can use outlook without a VPN connection. Outlook connects via SSL to an externally published URL your IT admin would have setup.
If they are not using Outlook Anywhere then you will be limited to OWA via a browser or as said above connecting a VPN tunnel and then using outlook.
Something that I did many a time was get a secure tunnel to my work machine from home. We used a system called firepass. It allowed complete remote login of your work machine.
