New kid on the block looking for help (gaming build)

I honestly know almost nothing about hardware, I'm basically looking to build a nice gaming computer, but I really just want to find the best "bang for my buck" if you know what I mean.

Here's the build a friend of mine set-up for me, I'm open to any changes and ideas but if you're going to post something in contrast to what's listed, if you could provide a link and kind of explanation as to why it's better, that'd be great.

Thanks in advance!

The Build:

--> Antec Eleven Hundred Black Super Mid Tower Computer Case

-->Samsung by Seagate Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ/ST500DM005 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

-->ASUS Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

--> SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity (100315L )

--> COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M700 RS-700-AMBA-D3 700W ATX12V V2.3 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

--> Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 HyperX Plug n Play Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C9D3P1K2/8G

--> AMD FX-8150 Zambezi 3.6GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8150FRGUBOX

EDIT: I forgot to add, I already have a mouse, keyboard, monitor, and a headset.

Spend less on the motherboard and more on the graphics card. I'd drop the Sabertooth board for something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514 and then get a Radeon 6870 such as this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150521 or a GTX 560 Ti if you can afford it.

Also get a better power supply. A Corsair CX 600 or TX 650 would do find for this build. The Cooler Master power supplies aren't great, Corsair is a much better brand.

If you can afford it, get yourself this 1TB drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840 but look into a different board, GPU and PSU before this.

Like said above. Drop the 8150 for the 8120, they really dont clock that much different. Change the board to the Gigabyte above or even the GA 970A UD3 if your not planing to run crossfire. Change the power supply to a Corsair 650 or a Seasonic 620. With the money saved get a better video card. Honestly I would change out that Kingston memory for a set of GSkill DDR3 1866.

So then my new "final" build is:

Antec Eleven Hundred Black Super Mid Tower Computer Case

Samsung by Seagate Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ/ST500DM005 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1563-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support ...

COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M700 RS-700-AMBA-D3 700W ATX12V V2.3 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular ...

G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR

AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8120FRGUBOX

Everything's fine but don't get the CM PSU, get the Corsair I put in the post above. 650W is more than enough for a 560 Ti. :)

Are they SATA or IDE? If they're IDE, throw them in the bin and get a SATA DVD-RW drive. They're so cheap these days you may as well just buy a new one anyway.

SATA looks like this:

IDE looks like this:

As it's from 2004, I'm gonna assume it's IDE, and even if it is SATA, just buy a new drive anyway. They're so cheap, and the newer drives are faster. This one would be good http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106289

I would honestly suggest getting Intel's sandybridge processors (the new i line) like 2500k instead of the AMD.

I get windows7 free through the Microsoft Academic Alliance association, but how would I go about getting that onto my harddrive and setting everything up
