My girlfriend needs a new hard drive for her laptop, as she dropped it down the stairs and its now extremely slow and nothing will open.

I have found a couple at tigerdirect that seem like good deals. I need one that is 250 gb SATA.

The first one, for $65, is a Seagate

In the past, I have heard that seagates are unreliable drives, which is the only downside I can find to this drive. This leads me to my second choice:

A Western Digital

The issue with this one is the price, at $85, which is the cheapest western digital I could find.

I have had very good luck with western digital in the past. There is also a Hitachi drive, how are they?

I would stay away from hitachi. Either seagate or western digital. Did she drop her laptop down the stairs or just the hard drive? If it was the laptop, then I would be afraid that something else got damaged.

I agree, stay away from Hitachi. I have had bad experiences with those hard drives.
