new laptop help??

Hello everyone! This is my first post, so bear with me!

I am looking into getting a laptop for myself, and got kinda lost. I have an idea of what i want, but nowhere near enough. So I am only 15, and I want a laptop to teach myself programming (I would like to develop android apps and ROMs). I will also use it for my music/photos, web browsing, the occasional movie, and storing files. I'm not a gamer, so that isn't a worry. And the last thing-my budget is around $500.

What sort of specs should I be looking for? I would like a 15 inch screen. I understand that 4 gb ram should be enough. Is this correct? And I want a 500 gb hard drive.

That part that I'm confused about is the processor. I don't know how fast it has to be to be nice and zippy for my needs. Would an i3 be enough, or is an i5 better? Or is it overkill? or amd?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks - Sam

I was searching newegg and found this model. Is this the sort of computer I should be looking at?

For your needs I don't think you would require that much graphic processing power. Also avoid brands like HP and Acer for non-business usages.
This is the best laptop I found on newegg for 500$
ASUS A53E-EH31

Dell inspiron 15

I would suggest the Asus in these there laptops. It has nice latest CPU and good resolution and I don't know about AMD Mobile CPUs, but there are laptops that are having AMD CPUs.

Thank you so much! I did some research on those laptops, mostly the acus one, and it looks really good. However, could you explain why it would be faster then the link I posted? it says it is is .3 ghz slower then the i3 in that one. Does having the later model be better then having the clock speed be a bit faster?

The 2310M scores more points than the 370M in most benchmarks.
2310M is the Sandy Bridge processor which is a newer one than the 370M. It also scores around the ranks of the old i5s. It would perform faster than the 370M and also would consume less battery life.

The Asus laptop also has faster memory, better quality, HDMI port. :)

It is a quad core cpu compared to the i3 being 2 with (4 threads when need)...

The APU cpu will excel better then the i3 when it comes to video and such! It's a close call... I would look to see if there is anything else in the Asus line up. I love my Asus and you know it's just good quality!

Thank you! I edited my post just after you posted, sorry about that! I would like to stick with Intel processors.

So would you recommend Asus over Acer?
