New Laptop Purchase

I am looking to buy a new laptop for working/playing on the internet and burning dvds/cds. I have a gateway 7405gx and upgrades ram to 1gb. My drive seems to be messed up and instead of getting it fixed I am considering a new purchase. The money is not too important, but I dont want to go overboard for things I dont need. I use anydvd and dvdshrink for most of my projects and also use microsoft office for school stuff. I watch most of my movies on it also. I dont like 17" monitors and I am slightly impatient so I want something that will multitask and run quickly. I have been toying with the idea of switching to a mac. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

no no no not a mac

i think that they are overpriced for what you get

where do you live, not australia by any chance, because i can recommend an extremely good laptop builder

Some laptop's it's not too hard to replace the drives in them. I'm sure that'd be much cheaper if you'd care to consider that route.

Macs aren't too bad, but I woudln't go for one... Mostly, it's extreamly hard to find good software for them. Plus, I don't know how everything will be going with all their changes...

I'm not sure of the best brands out there right now, but the intel processors are probably the best for mobile.

Does DVDshrink work on a Mac? I also agree with the other one and I'd just get the drive replaced. Actually it may not be a faulty drive, it could be just some malware or build up of junk.
