New Laptop Query

Hey everyone this is my first post to computer forum just wanted to know if anyone could help me decide on a laptop. I tend to be pretty picky and definitely brand judgmental so choosing isn't a very easy task.

I currently own a MacBook thats still running Leopard and the system has taken its toll and near the end of its life. I like Mac's but as a student engineer running software through Vbox is just a pain on a system that probably shouldn't be running two OS's simultaneously. So heres my criteria if you know of anything that would match it pretty well please let me know.

budget: $800 - $1400

13" - 14" display
backlit keyboard
Ivy Bridge CPU +1.7GHz
4GB+ DDR3 RAM
256GB SSD
Resolution > 1280 x 800
Windows 8

Oh really I didn't know you could do that?! I posted here because you can't search options like a backlit keyboard or 22nm cpu's. I thought the people of this forum could share their expertise while I'm searching or make suggestions to point me in the right direction.

The Dell website will allow you to build your laptop from the ground up. I am sure other manufacturers websites do the same. Since you ""tend to be pretty picky and definitely brand judgmental"", check out the websites of the "brand"s you are interested in. Some will allow total customization.

Oh, and by the way....for $1400, I will build your laptop for you. lol

Hope this helps

I came across this article about student laptops http://www.mawista.com/blog/en/cheapest-high-quality-laptops-students/ but I think these are for the typical low budget students, but good nonetheless.

I don't know how judgmental you are towards Acers and Lenovos but I have to say that the new models are very well built laptops with some great specs. The trend now is around these laptops with touchscreen, after Win 8 got released. I really don't like the concepts, I want either a tablet or a laptop, not both in one.

I'm on my iPhone right now and can't really check into this for you, but when I get the chance I'll whip up an awesome machine for you provided that I can find it. The only brand I can think of that would match what you want is alienware. My current laptop is an Acer laptop: 15" display, 4 gig RAM, 500GB hard disk, Windows 7 with Zorin OS 6 in VMware Player. Not exactly sure about the CPU.
