Here the specs, just got this today and installed core temp 0.99....

HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition customizable Notebook PC

* • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
* • 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2720QM (2.2 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.3 GHz
* • 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 6570 graphics [HDMI, VGA]
* • 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
* • 640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
* • 15.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366x768)
* • Blu-ray writer & SuperMulti DVD burner
* • Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)
* • Backlit Keyboard with HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader

Anyways, it is running at 50-55 at idle, around 65 while browsing the internet, and during my windows assesment score it ran up to 87 with fan running heavy! My house is only 68 degrees inside. (during summer keep thermostat around 80) I never seen any computer go this high. Could it be due to having the new 2nd gen sandy bridge quad core in a laptop? Tj. Max says 100. Doesn't this seem pretty high.

Mine about 40C G73JH-A1 and I am OC @2GHz.

Good news is running as HP designed, the bad news is running as HP designed. Yea it is on the hotter side. HP's traditionally do. And as such they have some of the highest failure rates. Sadly many happen just outside of warranty. That is how thermal stress demonstrates, not right away but shortens MoBo GPU life.

HP does have thermal issues in the past. Current I don't know but from OP not looking good?

I have a small Toshiba Netbook running a Intel Atom processor. it is around 53C don't seem to bother it any.:)

I have no interest getting in a fight with you but................I showed you one reality? You bring up another. It does run hot. I doubt you will get much more than than two years?

What do you want to know? Or do you just want to play me?

Edit: Yes your Atom will have greater failure rate.

I would worry more about your weather then my computer failing.:rolleyes:

Unfortuneatly, HP has not improved much recently. I have a Athlon 2 x2 and its hot to the touch at idle (dont know the temps. Have no clue how to get them in Ubuntu.).

Just download the small program HWMonitor and install it, then you will see the Temps of your processor.

Have you tried running speedfan? If you download that, go to the graphs tab and let it run for an hour with your normal usage etc. Let me know what the results are. Also, whereabouts do you use your laptop? Friend of mine used his laptop for a few months on his bed and it was clogged up with dust and was running at about 120 degrees ;P
