New Laptop & SSD: How do I go about this?

well when i read the "i don't care" i was laughing a little bit! good stuff!

ok, didn't realize booting time was pretty much the same with 128gb VS 256gb. maybe i'll just get the 128gb and save $100 or so, i'll def think about it...

also, what is POST time exactly? (again, sorry for all the questions, i'm just new to all of this.) i LOVE this forum, great info and ppl on here!

that it is. I never noticed it could be funny till I read it after you said it was funny.

the 256GB supposedly (going off the specs on the box) has higher write speeds than the 128GB. But that will not really affect much except installing programs and the like, and you are limited there by the throughput of your DVD drive (SATA1 in most cases), and internet connection speed.
Just get however much space you need and you will be fine. I personally would love to have a 512GB one in my laptop, but it would be more than the laptop is worth.

POST is Power On Self Test. It is the check that your computer goes through each time you start it up. It will occur either during the BIOS splash screen, or right before it. On the M90/M6300 and D620/630 it has a loading bar to show POST progress. I basically tune that out when timing boot, mainly because it is 5 to 15 seconds of time that will always be there and in no way is affected by your storage media decisions. A PCIe SSD will have the same POST time as a ATA33 HDD. But boot time will be less once you install a SSD even with POST time accounted for.

ok, i understand now wolf. thanks for informing me. i have seen the "post" term mentioned in the Sammy 256gb SSD reviews, but couldn't figure it out. man, it sucks being a newb! lol... guessi should have just googled the term, lol

guess i'll really have to wait until i get the laptop to see how their program is to make the recovery cd's. just cant wait to get it done and have everything set up!

ok, got my laptop yesterday and only had enough time to make the recovery dvd's. (5 total. 4 for windows and then 1 for the computer software)...everything went fine though! just have a couple questions:

- what size screwdriver do i need when switching out the hdd? (i went to ace hardware during my lunch break today and picked up the smallest screwdriver they had, and it was too big! these screws are so small!)....def need to go to homedepot where they have tons of screwdrivers, lol

- also, i rarely use my computer battery, just use it here and there. should i take it out and just use the power so the battery doesn't break? (probably won't get another laptop for another few years, so i want the battery to last)
