New Laptop to Old TV converter

Hey everyone. I hope this is not a redundant post. I have been searching the net for almost an hour and can't find an answer to my conundrum, so I thought it would be cool to just ask.

I have a nice new laptop which only has hdmi and rgb ports. My tv is old and nasty and only has S-video and RCA ports. Can anyone recommend a cable which will actually work to connect these two?

Thanks so much for your input. Watching TV from my laptop is one of my favorite things to do and I am so sad not to be able to for a while cause I am too dumb to figure this out. :(

Thanks so much!

First, a little background. "Old TVs" or the standard RCA/SVHS inputs only run at 720x480 interlaced. Your computer runs at a much higher resolution, non-interlaced. Besides having to scale down to the lower resolution, the output must be interlaced causing a fair bit of quality loss.

On to the solution, there really aren't any... You could get a VGA to RCA converter, but the quality of those is pretty low in comparison to video cards with TV Out.

Thanks!

Thanks so much for the reply! I really don't care about the quality on the tv. I am obviously used to watching tv in lousy resolution. Just want to have a picture up there. I never watch tv except off the net or my pc anyway so I just want something which will work and I've been having some trouble with it.

Thanks for the suggestion. :)
