ok im looking at buying a new laptop, at first i was looking at the alienware m9750 custom built with all the nice feature like the 2.6GHz processor and nvidia card and such for around 4k then i did some more research and i found the new Dell XPS m1730 was a better PC so i decided on that but now im stuck asking my self is the 2.8 GHz proseccer and the new nvidia card and all that stuff worth 4k? i mean it is mainly for school and word processing some gaming (like flash games maybe some small memory games like age of empires) and media like itunes and music, and just normal web surffing so do u think i should do? i dont want o spend more then i should any computer u recommend i look at or any ideas or advice would help ty!!

Sounds to me like you'd probably be better off with a far less expensive pc. Asus makes some great laptops for under $1,000 with the new santa rosa centrinos which are very good chips. For what you are doing those specs are far from needed. What about something like this?

But even that may be way more resources than you would actually need. IMO 4,000 for a machine, when a $1500 laptop will run the apps you use just as well.

For what you use it for, that is WAYYYYYY overkill. Unless you want to upgrade the games you play to brand new high end graphics games.

For what you stated a 200$ used laptop would do all of that and even more. But if you want something thats gonna last a while and play new games decently then ya that asus is a great laptop, but still way overkill for what you currently do.
