G'day having a little issue with my new mainboard, I cant get 2 devices to work on the same ide cable. Is there a setting I've missed somewhere?
My new mainboard is a Gigabyte G31MF-S2 which only has 1 ide plug on the mainboard. Everything works fine with my os on my ide hdd everything
is prefectly happy until i try plugging a second device (dvd/hdd) in after the hdd in which case I get a message on the boot screen saying "Insert
boot disc" or something to that effect. it just seems to hate having 2 ide devices on the same line. I'll be keeping a very close eye on this thread
so if there is any other info you need just ask. Any help is very much appreciated.

there is a setting you have to put on the two devices.

the device that is attached to the farthest 40-pin connecter should be made master
and the one that is connected to the closer one should be slave.

you do that by moving the jumper on the drives. its in the back.

also if you have a harddrive connected in to this ide cable it should be made master

Yeah, as Phantom said make sure your IDE is connected to the Master connection for the HDD. You can then branch off if you have the right IDE cable and you should be ok.
