New Media Computer

Hello all!

My friend asked me to help him build a new computer for him.

His budget is $2000 Canadian with tax. And he wants it to be assembled by the supplier.

He is looking for a computer not for gaming but for media. He is a photographer, so I am assuming a good processor would be good.

So far I have:

Coolermaster CM 690 II Basic ATX Mid Tower Case

Corsair TX750W 750W

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Edition 64BIT

G.SKILL F3-10666CL9T-6GBNQ 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1333 CL 9-9-9-24
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=34717&promoid=1026

Gigabyte X58A-UD3R ATX LGA1366 X58 DDR3

XFX Radeon HD 5770 850MHZ 1GB
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=44932&promoid=1026

Intel Core i7 930 Quad Core Processor LGA1366
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=50913&promoid=1026

Startech 3 Port IEEE-1394B Firewire 800 PCI Card
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=35302

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro REV.2 CPU Heatsink
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=42379

Sony DRU870S 24X DVD+/-RW SATA Internal DVD Writer
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=51979&promoid=1026

Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA3 6GB/S 7200RPM 64MB
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=50895

So far that's only $1,044.84 (without tax + shipping). We need 8GB of RAM and a good Video Card.

If there is anything that you think should be changed, please go a head and do so. This list is JUST for the computer itself, he doesn't need a Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, etc.

***UPDATED AGAIN***
Thanks!

Ok I switched from the i7 920 to the i7 930 and since you mentioned the problem about the OS he switched it from 32 to 64 bit, and therefore were looking at some good OCZ or Corsair 8GB RAM that would fit the ASUS P6T WS Professional well.

You could buy two kits of the RAM link I gave. Your mobo has 4x Dimm slots :) You could fit 8GB in there fine.

**Sorry for the double post**

I have some more questions:

1. Other than NCIX, are there any other online computers stores that will assemple your PC and will ship it to you assembled?

2. Scrap that other MOBO, I need one that isn't on backorder and to make sure it has as many USB ports as possible too, at least 8 and firewire. If it doesn't have firewire please provide a link to an adapter or something.

Thanks a lot!

Sorry I am a little rushy, he needs it by the end of the week. And yes he does need 8GB of RAM.

Ok once again I have updated the list.

This is what is final
Case
Power Supply
Operating System
Processor
Firewire
Heatsink
DVD Writer

And what MIGHT change:
RAM
MOBO
Video Card
Hard Drive

Oh and I was looking at that RAM and I found another head scratcher...

These seem exactly the same except one is a package of 2, 2 GB RAM and the other is 4, 2 GB RAM yet if I were to buy 2 packages of 2, 2GB of RAM it would be cheapier.

Is there any difference?

Thanks!

i7 9XX series have a tripple channel memory controller you need 3Sticks of RAM for Optimum Perfromance. It can be either 3gig or 6 gig or 12 gig of RAM.

Dont spend that much on the motherboard

Ok so I got that motherboard you suggested ^ but I have the RAM changed to G.SKILL F3-10666CL9T-6GBNQ 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1333 CL 9-9-9-24

Thanks!
