New Memory not working

Hi, and thanks in advance for any help :)

My wife's laptop (Sony Vaio) Model (VGN-TX 750P) is not responding well to treatment.
I wanted to upgrade the memory on it. I read the specs: memory type pc2 3200 400MHZ DDR2, max allowed 1.5GB. The laptop has a built in 512 and none in the one slot, so I bought 1GB of pc2 3200 400 MHZ DDR2.

When it came in I took all the precations grounded myself. opened the laptop put in the stick and turned it on.........I could hear the HD spin and some of the lights come on but the screen does not. I take out the memory and it runs fine.

So, I upgraded the bios and a few other things that needed it, and still the laptop does not work with the memory stick I bought.
This is what I bought: Kingston (samsung) 1GB PC2 3200 SODIMM 400 MHZ DDR2

Please any help is welcomed thankz....

Yes, I made sure it was seated well, I even did it multiple times to be sure.

Maybe I should try Memory from another manufacturer?

Have you considered the possibility the RAM you purchased is faulty?

Have you got a local repair shop nearby who will be willing to test it for you or a friend with a similar spec laptop to test it in?

Hi LocoSmurf,

Some of these suggestions you may have already done, but I'm going to run through all of the quirks of installing notebook ram.
- Remove AC Adapter AND battery before installing the new ram.
- Align the notch in the connector with the socket, and slide the memory in and out of the socket a few times without locking it down. This helps for a better connection if there is any oxidation on the contacts.
- Slide the memory into the socket, this time pressing firmly to make sure it settles as far into the socket as it can and then lock it down.
- Plug the AC and battery back in and try it. If it still fails, check with Sony for a BIOS update to flash the system with.
- If it still fails you either have a bad module or something about it is not compatible with the chipset on the notebook.
- The 1GB part number that is recommended by Kingston for your notebook is M12864E40.
