i am thinking of upgrading my RAM i currently have over 1 gig of PC2100. on my motherboard website it says my mobo can take upto pc3200 but is that the max or can i use pc4200,4500 etc? my mobo is the asus a7n8x-e deluxe if that helps

you can put for example a PC4000 ram but it will run at ddr400Mhz (PC3200), that pc2100 sure is slow.

tell me about it i have had it like since it came out and i have upgraded nearly everything else and now i have got round to doin my RAM

so basically ur saying that i can put and DDR memory in but it will run at max of 400mhz

yep, it will run at 400MHz but you are able to OC it, for at least 20MHz, so thats like 420MHz, but then you'll have to increase your FSB, the best performance is if your RAM and FSB are 1:1

how about 2700, is that still slowish? that's what i have

well if you have an athlon 64 it's recommended to have a ddr400 RAM (PC3200)

PC2700 (ddr333) is ok for older cpu like, athlon XP's, durons, semprons

if the FSB goes up to 166MHz then it's ok to have a pc2700 RAM, but if your fsb is 200MHz or more then it's better to have a PC3200 RAM or more, but AMD chipsets don't support RAM faster then ddr400

thought i helped

if you want to upgrade it you probably should completely ditch the old 2100 ram cause even if you buy pc3200 ram it would still run at pc2100 speed.

um, I made a mistake lol, my memory is 2800 not 2700, not much dif but just clear that out, sorry mates
