New Mobo problem

Hi

I just bought a new motherboard, cpu and vid card and 512 Ram
They are: mobo - gigabyte GA-81848P-G
vid card - gigabyte Geforce FX5500
CPU - 3.0Gh 478 socket

and my old case.

I assembled everything (without attaching any IDE devices just to check if it powers up) and it doesnt power up. The only thing that happens is the fans on the cpu and vid card start spinning and the monitor shows "no signal input or cable disconnected" for about 5 secs then the monitor goes blank. I know its not the vvid card coz it works on another comp. I also read thatthings can be shorted, however i dont think that happened in this case. Is there a way the mobo or cpu can be checked to see it anything has shorted?

Thanks

i'm not sure your can get far in boot without some form of ide, or floppy. Try plugging them all in the see what you get

You can boot without those devices. The mobo screen comes up just to test that it works.

Any suggestions anyone?

Hmmm

Is the mobo screwed in properly on those standoffs? If not that could be causing problems. I always test mine on some plastic so that there is no danger of conduction. Anyway, try that and make sure that your video card is plugged in properly. I know this may sound stupid, but I had a very simmilar problem. All it took is pushing the mobo in once again and all was good. I would suggest trying another video card.
