im rebuilding my buddies computer, he blew his mobo last week, i just got the parts, and installed them properly, went too boot and im getting the windows xp logo for about a half a second and then a blue screen and then a restart.....ive built a few comps but this is the first time ive had this particular issue, it was an oem factory built computer...i tried to boot my xp disc to repair the os but it gets to the boot from disc prompt and never gives me the press any key to boot from disc, i know someone else out there has had this problem and conquered it, any help would be appreciated.....im still fairly new ive only been doing it for about a year and its only my 4th build/rebuild so english would be appreciated, im not dumb, i just know that there are people in this forum that will wipe the floor with me when it comes to comp. knowledge, but thats why im asking, thanks again, any help is greatly appreciated, have a good evening.

yeah i know that......but when it doesnt prompt you to boot from the disk, what do you do....serious answers only please from people that have dealt with this problem. all others thanks but no thanks

You can go into bios and see if you see the boot order, and set the cd drive for first. It should boot from the cd then...

yep a windows reinstall is in order, just stick the disk in, change the boot order to boot from the cdrom and viola, good luck

if you have done all of the above and it is still saying boot from cd but isnt asking you to push any key to boot from cd go into bios and set to fail safe mode then first boot device cdrom save and exit that should do it.when windows has finnished installing go back into bios and set to optimal and save and exit that is what i had to do .

Go into BIOS and set it to boot from CD, it's not configured to do this by the sound of it.
