A friend is after a new monitor, let me pop up what he has said on another forum and see if you can help
Please note the final part of this, Is there possibly somewhere (UK) that still does excellent CRT monitors. Personally i've not spotted anywhere so any help would be brilliant.
If not pop up a TFT but CRT would definately be prepared
******** and stupid ****!
The unthinkable has happened and my trusty CRT monitor has started to get a bit twitchy, the overall picture is fine but the geometry is starting to get a bit screwy in a few subtle ways, and none of the five billion different adjustments it has seem to be able to generate a perfectly square picture that fills the screen. (Unless you're as anally retentive as me, you probably wouldn't even notice it.)
Since it's now effectively impossible to buy a decent CRT, I am basically forced to dip my toes into the shit-filled waters of stupid ****ing bastard TFTs.
I like a Windows desktop res of 1280x1024, and games at 1600x1200, but since TFTs generally look shite at their non-native res I suppose I'll have to pick one or the other.
Being as I still play an awful lot of FME, and seeing how your average 1280DX and especially 1024DXs will look like a postage stamp on a 1600 desktop, I'll have to go for a 1280x1024 native res TFT.
This is EXTRA SHIT because it means I won't be able to play Ploggy's 1600 DXs or other 1600DXs properly.
Why in the name of Jesus' ****ing dancing sandals has an INFERIOR TECHNOLOGY triumphed over the CRT?
I do not want a widescreen TFT because I have a widescreen telly and I don't watch films on my PC, therefore I want a nice traditional 4:3 aspect TFT, with a native res of 1280x1024.
However, even that's stupid because I've just got this ridiculously overclocked Opteron paired up with a nice overclocked X1900XT, which means I can play nearly all games at 1600x1200.
Grrrrrr.
Therefore I will take recommendations for both a 1280x1024 and a 1600x1200 TFT, I suppose really I need to get a 1600 one, but is it still the case that TFTs look ****ing awful at their non-native res?
Unless it's still possible to get really good large screen CRTs from somewhere?
