I recently gave away my monitor to a family member (forgot the name of the monitor). It was a 19'' LCD monitor that had a resolution of 1440x900. It was from around 2007. It was perfect. But now I'm running on my 55 inch TV and it's just not practical. My eyes hurt.

I'm seeing 20"+ TN and IPS panels around $100 or cheaper. I'm seeing a ton of Asus, Acer, Samsung, and Planar brands on Newegg.

I'm assuming these brands are all pretty much the same nowadays?

I heard it may be better to purchase monitors from Amazon because of the superior return policy (dead pixels being the main issue). Is this true?

I don't pay too much attention to monitor brand. I've got an Acer and 2 ASUS monitors currently, and had an HP in the past. All have been great. Look for an IPS display if you can, I'd personally want at least a 22 if not 24" for monitor size. 20" is pretty small these days and not much cheaper than a 24".

    I'd personally get this.

    Thanks for the help.

At this price point, do you think IPS would be a noticeable improvement over TN?

Absolutely. My main/primary monitor is a 25" IPS 1440p display and my outer 2 monitors are 1080p TN panels. Yeah the resolution difference is noticeable but the brightness and color clarity of the IPS is a more noticeable difference than the resolution IMO.

You weren't kidding. I stopped by Best Buy just to compare sizes, and yeah the IPS displays are far superior.

Never thought I'd actually find a deal at Best Buy, but they had a 23" IPS Acer on display and on sale for $94.

Seems comparable to the one you showed me. Well, I hope at least ha.

I went ahead and ordered it, as they didn't have any in stock in store.
