hi there :)
i just purchased a ABIT AV8 Mobo. After i switch my pc on, it shows me the following codes:
83,87,9c,9f - then my pc goes off.
unfortunately, the codes 9c, 9f are NOT in my manual. Apart from that my speaker gives me 4 beeps. (also the sound-signals are not in my manual)
does anyone have an idea? i also dont get to the bios, so it might be a hardware problem, ey?

thanks in advance ;)

What BIOS have you got (Award, AMI etc...), also, what are the beeps, is it 2 long and then 2 sgort or 4 short or 4 long or what. Are 83 and 87 in the manual, if so what are they and what do they relate to, post back with some info.

*EDIT* After a long trawl through google i found a guy who has the exact same problem and he said it was caused by an ANTEC PSU, if you have an ANTEC PSU then this would explain the problem, If you dont have an ANTEC PSU then i have no idea what it could be.

the beeps are the following:
one long, 3 short

bios - dont know :( how can i find that out?
the psu is not from ANTEC..... :/

maybe i should try to reset the bios? how do i do that? or where can i find the jumpers?

Right, you should be able to find out the BIOS make form the manual, i need to know the make to know what the beep code is saying. Again the reset jumpers will be in the manual, they are usually next to the flat round battery on the mobo. Simply short out pins 2-3 instead of 1-2 for about 10 seconds and then replace.

If it is an AMI BIOS then that code is saying there is prblems with the ram, if it is an IBM bios then it is an error with the integrated graphics (replace mobo). It is unlikely to be an IBM BIOS so try reseating your RAM in the slots and make sure you have the right type of RAM for your mobo. Try using RAM that is known to work in toher systems to see if it is a RAM problem or a faulty mobo.

What PSU is it? (I ask because Antec doesnt actually make PSUs per-se, another company makes them and Antec labels it ... you could have a PSU from that same company under a different label). Also, if you can, what is the UL Code (underwriters lab).

Did you connect the ATX12? Possibly connecting too many devices to a single molex cable? :)
