New & Noisy CPU Cooling Fan

I have just started up a new computer: HP d4890y just delivered to me from HP. The internal CPU cooling fan makes an extremely harsh noise, as if there is a bad bearing and this was at the initial turn-on; reminds me of a low speed dentist’s drill. I turned it off and tried again, but still noisy after several minutes.

Information label on the fan hub says:
a. ASIA VITAL COMPONENTS CO. LTD
b. AVC D7092NC TUV
The fan spins freely when nudged at rest. The fan casing is tight, nothing loose. From the AVC web site, my fan looks like this one (but does not have same part number):

INTEL LGA775 ATX Solution
Z8U703Q001

I am certain the noise is from this fan, as I listened to it briefly with the computer side panel off.

I have contacted HP and they are having me send the computer to their repair facility. I am just wondering what experience there may be here with such ‘out of the box’ fan failures? Thanks.

Not the CPU fan after all...

I am somewhat chagrined. I have discovered that the source of the noise is not the cpu fan after all. I happened to try starting the computer without the cpu fan connected (momentarily) and the noise was still there! There is yet another fan on the bottom side of the NVIDIA GeForce graphics card. There was a white wire touching the GeForce fan blades, and that was the source of the noise. I moved the wire and restarted the machine. It is totally quiet….. So what did I learn: the graphics card has a fan which I did not know about; in toto, the computer has four fans: power supply exhaust, case inlet, cpu heat sink, and graphics card. Who woulda thunk it….
