Quad core processors provide a substantial amount of performance increase over a core2duo notebook, and some people can take the reduced battery life for performance.


Actually they don't because most applications and operating systems don't thread resources out to 4 cores yet. It is too new to fully take advantage of, and if that were true then you would see a lot of Core2Quad processors in laptops, but you don't.

Mainly because there are no mobile quad core processors (that I'm aware of), the only ones you do see are desktop models.

Because they generate too much heat and consume too much power LOL....

Very true, I can't imagine the battery life of a 17" laptop with a desktop version quad-core processor, dual 8800M GTX's in SLI, dual hard drives in RAID, etc...
