new optiarc dvd rom installed. need help

my system installed the new hardware, but when i hit the eject button in the my computer screen it opens up both the original disk drive, and the new one? i need help on how to correct this problem. I installed new memory as well and it read that without any problem. but the new dvd rom is not working right. even if i put a dvd(WoW) it doesnt do anything but lock up the computer until i remove the disk. any suggestions? i dont want to have to pull the computer apart again to simply swap the optiarc above the original but if that makes a difference then ill do it lol.
 
Did you set one drive as master and one slave, by the jumpers on the back of the drives. The one on the end of the cable is better set as master.
 
no. im new at computer stuff. the parts i ordered didnt come with instructions. the memory is fine, it reads it and all is good. so to set the newer drive as master i put it above the expansion bay compartment and use the master connection and the original as slave? will that make everything work as it should?
 
You can leave them on the cable the way they are. Just set the jumper to master on the drive at the end of the cable. The drive in the middle connector to slave. The jumpers are on the back of the drive.

Right, just put the jumper on the pins for master for the drive at the end of the cable and slave for the drive in the middle of the cable.

They are probable both set to master or slave and freaking windows out!:D
 
Could be. Different chipsets will act different. Some will only see one drive, some will not see either drive, some will act just plain crazy.
 
yeah that was the problem. the original samsung was set at c-sel. and the new one at master. so i set the samsung to slave and swapped it on the expansion bay compartment and now everything works good. thanks
