New or try to replace?

I have an AMD Athalon XP 2800+ with 256mb of DDR RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5100, and i'm wondering if this is at all upgradeable, or if I should just build a whole new computer. I'm looking to game, with decent graphics but no lag. Only games i'm looking at playing now are CoD4 and WoW. Atm my comp can't even play WoW over 5fps most of the time. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm all for keeping older systems if they still work, but in this case, building/buying a new system would be the logical course.

Well one reason i want a new comp asap is cuz im going to take apart my current one and try to rebuild it to learn how it all works.

Well you can upgrade the CPU, Upgrade the ram (Probably DDR - if it is not good), Better graphics card.

If the ram is DDR then you would have to buy a new motherboard... but to save all the hassle might just build a new system - you can keep the same box.

What is your Power supply?

I have a 300W Manhattan ATX-300. I want to keep my same box to save 50-60$ but i don't know if my current fan will keep a better system cool enough.

OK - Well you'll need 550W at least!!!

If you can always upgrade your box if you find that it is not cooling properly.

Eventually yeah. I don't have the cash atm but I just got a job and should have enough soon. I'm only looking at like a 400$ gaming computer. I'll keep my current monitor and such, probably get a laser mouse. Myy current HDD is 74GB i believe, I might be looking at the wrong thing. And yeah i realize that's crap haha.

That's good. I'm looking for something that'll hold me over until i get out of high school, when i'm gonna get a laptop. So I need to make it last about three years.

Well you will get a good system and it will last you 3 years....

^^ With new technology it will be outdated in about 1week! lol

$400? Not much of a budget but im sure something could be worked out and esp if you get a barebones kit! I spent in the long run about $750 on the HP in my sig minus the extra hdd. For $750 it is a great deal and esp b/c its a whole set (monitor, tower, and access). I love upgrading my Pre-built. It's a Sleeper!!!

Sleeper means it looks stock from the outside but from the inside it's all about Business!! lol My pc isnt that great but, its alot better and faster than what it was when I got brand new.

^^ Yup!! I just added a 750gb hdd, 8600gt xxx zalman card, Ultra 600watt psu, and a couple of case fans. Now she's screaming.
