new OSU Student __ new laptop? & XP vs. Vista

Hi, I'm an incoming freshman to The Ohio State University and am looking to buy a new laptop.

1.) I don't play any hardcore computer games: Should I get Windows XP or Vista?

2.) As a mechanical engineer, can you recommend any computer which would be suitable?

(I have discounts with Leveno laptops)

Windows Vista would be the best, and is the best :P

Well there is a budget there now..... i'll do some research, i'll post back with something soon.

Edit - Here is a good list, have a look the small list of what i would go. 1 being the highest and the best one i would go for.
