New Build: Status Update (long winded) Zombie Thread!! RUN!!!
I wound up going with the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 while visiting Frys Electronics. It was the card I wanted and they had one in stock. Quite the place if you've never been. I was on business out of state and was lucky enough to have one near by.
Also considering the purchase of a HYBRID Water Cooler (All in One) for GTX 980. For the CPU I purchased SilverStone Argon Series AR06 as the older case didn't have enough clearance for most of the big boys. Haven't installed yet. I am Contemplating delidding that CPU. That links goes to another forum post. Please weigh in if you have some advice on that topic. Ultimately would like to go with closed loop CPU cooler as well.
I also decided to stick with the original case that I came into. Sure it is not perfect but it was they very thing that inspired my so called "perfect" build. So I made it work. Even threw a 15" UV-Black Cold Cathode Tube in there. Was able to look at several cases while at Fry's and incidentally this is my favorite case for upgrade later: Corsair Vengeance Series C70 Military Green Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case. With all the overclocking/cooling I'm planning on the new case will be a must.
Thanks to everyone for the build advice. Everyone's input was considered but in the end I had to go with what I wanted. That was the point of this build. So, ultimately am I happy with the build? Hell yes. Couldn't be happier. 15 second or better boot times. The smug self-satisfaction that comes with knowing your PC hardware inside-out. Never skipping a frame and loading faster than almost anyone in League of Legends. It's great.
So that's it.
I wanted to share my experience through to the end because I noticed that there are a lot of folks with questions about new builds. This was not my first build by a long stretch. And it may even be a bit juvenile (night club style interior) for a man my age. But my point is this: build that PC. You may not be able to afford everything you want right now but build that thing. But if you try hard and are patient you too can build your ultimate personal computer. The people on this site are a invaluable source of information. Thanks to everyone that helped me through this one!
Also if anyone has a D-Frame to donate to the cause, let me know
