New PC Build

Hi guys, it's been a long time since I last posted!

I'm still having PC issues with my current build from 2011 based on a Socket 1155 system and instead of trying to fix the issues I've decided to go for a whole new build.

I don't have any brand preferences but haven't kept a check on the latest hardware releases over the years so need a bit of assistance!

I'm keeping the following from my current setup

256GB Sandisk SSD
3TB HDD
550w OCZ ZT Power Supply

My budget is £500/$650 and I need the following:

Case
Motherboard
CPU
RAM
Graphics Card

I'll be switching to new Mouse/Keyboard setup when needed

If you could give me an idea of what is current or upcoming and a good mid range build for gaming which is at the same time futureproof for about 2 years that'd be great!

Thanks

Well assuming that you're using the PC for gaming, for 30$ over your budget you can get a 1600 and a 3GB 1060. If you can't spend the extra 30$ then go with the 1400, but I think that the extra 2 cores and 4 threads of the 1600 are worth it.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for getting back to me, had some issues with this PC for a while so wasn't able to reply.

I've amended my budget now to £350, still needing all the above, minus a graphics card, I'll get that at a later date, so will need a board with on-board VGA in the mean time, or do all boards come with this now due to integrated cpu/gpu?

Anyway, 2 main questions are,

1. Is the AMD Ryzen 5 a big step up from the current Intel offerings, or just more cost effective right now?
2. Do I really need 16GB of RAM? I was on 8GB last year without issue and had to downgrade to 6GB for a new CPU cooler clearance.

I'll be playing games at 1080p with chrome running most of the time, and that's about it, is 16GB not overkill for that?

Thanks!

Also, I forgot to add, my last case was a corsair 300R, but it's over 5 years old now and a bit battered, so I'll be looking for something new and different, are there any good cheap mid size towers on the market at the moment which are good for cable management?

Also, I've raised my budget to £450 minus the graphics card

How does this look? If you can add another £50 or so, you could have a nice PC! :)

Ryzen 5 1600 offer best value for money right now.
However, it doesn't have onboard VGA.
Do you have spare video card lying around?
8GB is enough for now. If you go for ryzen 5, it works better with fast RAM. 2 x 4GB RAM with DDR4 3000 is about £75 at the moment. 2 x 8GB is £130.

If you don't have video card, spend £15 grab a 2nd hand for temporary use.

Hi Guys thanks for the replies. I did a bit of research and did find out that Ryzen doesn't have an integrated GPU, and I don't have a spare card lying around anywhere. 2X4GB of DDR4 3000MHz was my first choice to take advantage of dual channel performance from the motherboard.

I'll be ordering tonight for a delivery on Saturday, and will probably get all the parts from the same retailer so I don't have to wait around for deliveries, and for £27.99 I can get a new GT710 for temporary use without waiting again, so will probably do that. I'm not worried about that small loss as I'll sell it on for maybe £10 once I get a new card. I'll also pick up a decent CPU cooler at the same time further down the road.

Anyway here is what I've come up with myself from Amazon based on your advice. Could you confirm that there's no compatibility issues? I don't think there are but want to make sure.

Thanks again

Here is the final build list

My only concern now is my Power Supply, it's a 5 year old OCZ ZT 550W, which has been powering a i5-3450 & GTX670 for most of that time. I'm not sure whether to replace it when I get a new gaming card.
