New PC setup

Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum.
I’m looking to put together a new PC and hoping to get some suggestions and recommendations from people on here.
I have set my budget around $1200, little more or little less is ok.

Looking for Intel proc and Nvidia Graphics. Will be primarily a Gaming computer.

This will be my first build PC. I have already a Monitor just need the tower and everything that goes inside it.

Thanks

By the way I have an EVGA GTS 450 in my old Dell Computer, Should I use that or just get a new card? Would it play all the new games?

While you wait for someone to put together build for you, you may be interested in visiting a site like newegg.com and checking out what's available on there and what the prices are.

If you see something you like update your thread to show us what you've found.

You'd be surprised to see how much you learn just by surfing for parts and reading about them.

I wouldn't recommend putting the old GTS 450 in your new machine. It can RUN really any game today, but only if you're okay with medium/low settings when talking about the more modern games.

As for suggestions...
Pretty basic things, really. Touch a separate metal object or the case to get rid of any static electricity before handling your parts, maybe wear one of those static bands (not many people use those anyway), do NOT touch the gold colored pins/spots on the motherboard where the CPU goes, use a dab of thermal paste on the CPU about the size of a pea, and turn off the PSU when you plug everything in plus don't forget to plug something in. There isn't a whole lot to it. The main things are to just be organized and fairly careful.

Drop to a 2570k if you are gaming. You will not see any gains from the i7. Certainly not a $100 worth of gains. (I use a 2600k, so I am not talking out my arse here. I see no gains on most games, and less than 1% difference on BF3 with HT off).

8GB is more than enough for gaming. If you do image editing or CAD work, then get 16GB.

That PSU is junk. GEt something from XFX, Antec, Corsair, or Seasonic/silverstone. You don't need 1000 watts, but go for it if you want to.

You need a HDD to go with your SSD. I would suggest a cheap 1TB unit, newegg has them for $69

Motherboard get a LGA1155 socket from Asus, Gigabyte or EVGA with a Z77 chipset.

CPU fan, if Overclocking go for a Hyper 212 EVO for a cheap one. If you have it to spend then look at the NH-D14, one of the best around. :)

are all SSD the same? speed wise? There are so many around. any suggestion on a good one?

Thanks

not all SSD are the same. I personally like the 830 Samsung. it is what I use. The Samsung extreme drives are good too.

It is a lot easier if you pick out the ones you are looking at and we can tell you which ones are the better drives. That is a lot easier than trying to list out the good drives.

Why is the PSU junk? I don’t know much about PSUs, but looking thru the specifications compared to other "good brands" you mentioned it seems to be better off.
Besides it not being a well-known brand, is it any different than a corsair brand?

Reliability is a huge deal with PSUs. You can technically get whatever you'd like but some off-brands have a tendency to fail and take the whole system with them.

For that reason we tend to lean towards the more well-trusted companies, especially on expensive builds.

I am not seeing many figures standing out at me, but there are issues that relate to them pandering to idiots when they built it.
1. It is a single rail design. This means that should any component start pulling more than the 83 amps it provides, you are SOL with a dead system. With a 1000 watt PSU you are looking idealy to have at least 3 rails, if not more. That is for system protection.
2. It is tested at 25*C, which is rather cool and much cooler than the operating environment.
3. It is only dual SLI capable. You will never get anywhere near the specifies 1000 watts usage because it will not support enough cards to draw that power, unless you were using 2 590s or 2 6990s.
4. Warranty. Not sure how much it has, but I know Corsair stands behind their products.

Look at it like this. You have built your nice racing engine, pushing 14:1 compression, 900HP or so. Okay, you put all that time and energy into it, now lets take it down to the local sheets and fill it up with SAE30, Type F, and 87 octane. Don't make sense does it?
You really do not want to cheap out on the PSU. The PSU is your most important part.

SanDisk Extreme 120GB is the fastest I've come across (it's what I'm using now) and I've used quite a few in the past.

Not sure why you're getting an 850W PSU when you only have a GTS 450. I'd get a new video card too. Spend less on the board, PSU, case and RAM (get 1600MHz RAM) and then get a better card. My suggestion would be a 7850 or something if you can afford that.

Yeah. Is this for gaming? Because this is such a beastly rig for that GPU. Get a Gigabyte ud3h or ud5h, if you need the features. The noctura is huge, and doesn't have the best cooling. Go with a true WC setup for great cooling, or a setup like the Corsair H100. And, if your not overclocking, go with a H40 or the cooler master hyper 212. These will allow for some overclocking later, and great cooling. The cosair 600D is overpriced for what it is, go with bitfenix, nzxt, most coolermasters, and some antecs, and a lower end Corsair. I noticed you say already have a copy of win 7 ultimate. Usally, the ultimate version is because you pirated it. Don't. It is not worth the trouble. I am not talking about how it's illegal, stupid, blah blah, I mean it's a huge Hassell (really, I haven't done it, but I have seen it done), the cracks and stuff. If not pirated, have you installed it on another machine before? Because if you did, you can't install it again. The old 1 TB might fail on you, be careful. Go with a 650W psu.

I actually bought a copy of ULT, I get a really good discount thru my job :).

Anyways this is what I have decided for. Will order today just need one final review.
I thought I could use the GTS 450 for now unless you think it’s really bottlenecking my specs. I will use primary for gaming and Photo editing with CS5.

Thanks.

No asus. Asus has problems. Get a Gigabyte UD3H or UD5H if you need the features. Get a lesser case, unless you really slant that one. I would get a Shinobi XL, or a HAF 932 if you want the looks. The GPU is a serious bottleneck, get a GTX 660 Ti, or GTX 670 for extreme power. How much money are you spending altogether? With the HAF X, and asus.

everything was about $1000. Not including windows, GPU.
I am getting a better deal on the X than a 932 on amazon so Im going to stick with the X.
