new pc specs, need help

i have a list of parts for a new PC, i'm am a noob here and this will be the first PC i will build,

so far i have these things bothering me:

-a Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 mobo ($80) or a Asus A8N-E mobo ($110) or any other mobo around those prices that you reccomend
-hard drive (which company is the best, not really worried about it)
-power supply (just need a company name also, 500-600watts)
-RAM (also company)
-case (want a cool one with no door blocking the CD drive bays, i dont really need an answer to this, i can find one eventually, but help is appreciated)

i was planning on the AMD 4400+, 2 512mb RAM, and either the Gigabyte or the Asus mobo or any other card recomended (i have a graphics card). So will anyone help me decide, i'm one of those guys that wants everything very exact and specific.

thank you in advance.

one that sucks and will be upgraded in a months time to a 7800 GT

the asus is good, i might get it after all, but i'm still indecisive

Well the 7800GT is pci-express, so if you dont have a pci-e graphics card atm, the youll have to either get a new lower card, get a new motherboard.....again, or not use the pc for a few months.

i cant use an old PCI bus graphics card? if not ill just take a loan from a friend (i'm goign to call $300 a loan) and buy the 7800 GT

If its a pci card, then yes, you can use that in the system. I was thinking it was an agp. Beware, i doubt you'd be able ot play any decent games.

already bought a grpahics card, the 7800 GT, found out it has S-video in and S-video out, got my big TV in my room and my PS2.....i'm even more excited

new question, is the gigabyte ga-k8n-sli a good enough board

i already bought everything everything came, now assembly comes, will it be a good baord or will it become unstable and fry?

also i got a 4400+, will a heatsink with a pad be enough if i'm not overclocking?

I wouldnt bind a X2-4400 to a low end mobo like those, it'd be too unblanced (especially if u plan to up it to a 78GT)

hard drive (which company is the best, not really worried about it)
HDD 101

power supply (just need a company name also, 500-600watts)
PSU 101

one that sucks
And that would be....

how do i overclock? i have a computer that sucks right now and i never looked into overclocking
OC 101
Hehe you're really not one to see them stickies ;)

HELP!!! I started my newly built computer ( i dont have a xp disk yet) and turned it on, now i have these problems:

1.there is a temperature sensor a centimeter above the harddrive, if i leave the computer on for about 10 minutes, it gets to about 95 degrees F, is that too hot?

2. when i connect it, it says this:

pri. master disk : none
pri. slave disk : none
sec. master disk : cdrom
sec. slave disk : none

under that is:
memory controller NA
and a bunch of other stuff listed

i'm using a SATA drive by maxtor, i dont know if thats the problem though

then there is:

Nvidia boot agent
copyright (C) 2001-2004 nvidia corporation
copyright (C) 1997-2000 intel corporation
pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable
pxe-m0f: exiting nvidia boot agent
Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

all of this is on the screen now while the hardddirve increases in hear, i dont know what it means but i tried booting from an old disk and it didnt work
PS: this is an AMD system

What type of temp sensor? What is it connectoed to?

Sounds like you connected the drive to the RAID controller maybe? (or your board doesnt natively support sata)

Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter
Means u need to put a boot disc in (i.e. Windows CD)

Mobo- go for an asus of, if you can spend the $ for it, a DFI. nforce4 is the only way to go, and I'd get an SLI board to make it more future proof.

Hard Drive- doesnt matter too much, just get a decent SATA. I like Western Digital, but like I said that doesnt matter much.

Power Supply- I'm loving my FSP 450W. They have other models on newegg as well..

RAM- G.Skill, OCZ, and Corsair come to mind. The corsair xms stuff I have is great and not too expensive, but not the value shit.

Case- you should definitely look into the cooler master centurian 5. Good looks and price, with no door. Also you can get it with side panels.

And nice choice with the 7800gt :D

edit: uhhh sorry im a little late on that...

As for OCing, VERY simply put its just increasing the FSB of your motherboard in your bios. All I did was increase the FSB gradually up to 50, didnt even have to touch the vcore.

The ASUS A8RMVP is cheaper than the equivalent DFI board

Just make sure you're memory is rated at tight timings AND low voltages, upping the voltages is cheating.
