New PC

In a couple of months I'm getting about $1k as a graduation gift and I'm going to use it towards a new computer. My budget will be around $1500 total, possibly a little more but definitely less than $2k. I've never build a PC from scratch and I'm fairly slow and easily stressed when it comes to new, difficult endeavors, so I was considering buying from DigitalStorm. I want a gaming computer, but it also needs to be something I can use for work-related stuff such as graphics/video editing. What do you guys think?

Will I need to buy a sound card? Also can I freely choose another case if I wish, or is that one the best for this setup?

The solid state drive is, essentially, a smaller, much faster hard drive to put Windows and your programs on, while you save all of the larger stuff like music, pictures, and project files to the larger drive. You'd also want to install games to the bigger one. It's not necessary...it just helps to speed things up a bit.

The case is great, no worries there unless you don't like the looks of it.

You won't need a sound card unless you're some kind of audiophile or something...the onboard sound can drive a 7.1 surround system.
 
I have a 232gig hard drive currently that I wanted to use as a backup in the new system. Would the Solid State drive be recommended if I have two big hard drives?

Any other recommendations for a different case? I want something sleek and clean looking.

That case is nice.

The Thermaltake Frio looks good, but I read about some issues with it being too large for some boards. What would be a safe board to go with?
