hey all I just got a new pc a few weeks ago. its an emachine T5062. 1024mb DDR2 amd athlon 64 processor 3800+ (whatever all that means) it also came with vista home premium. there are two available memory slots for extra ram and i was curious if i bought more and put it in if it might make it run a little faster when I'm using programs? i know everyone says vista eats up a lot of memory so i wondered if anyone knew if that would help the problem if i went up to two gigs of ram instead of 1. i don't know much about computers really at all so any thoughts are appreciated thanks. :)

Yes... 1GB is almost the minimum in my opininon.... For Vista...

Arg! $400 for that?!?!? RIP. 2GB is the max you can go, and the CPU is not even Dual Core! I'd refund that and build my own if I were you...

An increase in RAM will speed up your PC and boost performance. Are you sure that there are two slots available? Below is the Memory specs taken from the eMachines T5062 product page:

Memory: 1024MB DDR2 dual-channel memory
(2 × 512MB), 667MHz, (PC2-5300)
Expandable to 2GB
2 DDR2 slots (Total) | 0 DDR2 slot (Available)

Hmm.. :( When I searched on crucial website and a couple of others it claimed I had four memory banks w/two available. I might have to open it up to look..

And to the poster above there is no way I could "build my own" I don't know anything/nor feel comfortable for that. Maybe I did pay a little too much for what this one is but I was in a bind and needed one quick and had no one to consult or anything this was the best I could do right now. I'd be happy with it overall if it just ran a little faster.

BTW I am a girl :P

crucial site isn't trustworthy as you might have realize, anyway you could swap them for 2x1gb sticks

Yeah I see. I just did a live chat with an emachine rep after reading that about only two slots and yup that's all I got so looks like that's what I'd have to do. What a load of crap! Oh well. Nothing I can do about it now but swap 'em out. Thanks for your help all.

That's all right. :) Here's a couple recommendations: Kingston Corsair Many of us on the Forum prefer high performance memory, however, in your situation, go with a brand with a good reputation. You don't really need anything expensive, IMO.

A girl upgrading PC hardware...that's hot! :P Good luck! :)

So what if she's an girl? Anyone can build an computer apj :P, it's basically an screwdriver and your hands :P. The Building Computers were created for an reason :D.

Lower Quality: Micron, A-Data, pqi, All Components, Wintec, PNY, Simpletech, Apida,

Middle Quality - Kingston, Corsair (some models), Super Talent, Mushkin, Transcend,

High Quality - GeIL (most), Team, OCZ, Corsiar (most models), Crucial (some models), G Skill, Patriot...

^ My opinions. If I'm missing one please tell me.

I have found that GeIL is trash... I went from Crucial to GeIL to OCZ... OCZ is where it's at. and BTW, Patriot while being good for the dollar, isn't good RAM...

Stick to OCZ and Crucial. I have B5's in my Crucial DDR500 and D9's in my OCZ DDR2-1200

psshit. I got my fiancee building her own comps in her lingerie.

OP: Get youself some cheaper A-data memory. you can pick up 2GB on newegg for like $60. it's an HP, you can't overclock or play with timings. you'll be fine with value RAM.
