I just bought a new processor and motherboard, and had a few questions. Does the processor just snap on the board or what? Also i've heard that your supposed to put some grease stuff on the processor, is this true? And what kind do you use?
you lift the retention bar on the white socket part, put the cpu in, and then the retention bars goes back down and secures the pins into the motherboard. http://www.pasarlascanutas.com/motherboard/motherboard4810.JPG
the bar is on the left, it lifts upward off the motherboard.
thermal compound is suggested, but some people just sand down their cpu's ihs and the heatsinks bottom to a super fine mirrored finish, around 3000 grit and so on...
personally, i couldnt find anything more than 2000grit so i used a tiny bit of arctic silver 5, probably the most reliable and best thermal compound out there. http://www.pasarlascanutas.com/motherboard/motherboard4810.JPG
instructions for thermal compound http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm
be careful, the instructions are jumbled a little and they put instructions for arctic silver 2 and 3 in the middle of the page.. you'll want arctic silver 5 thermal compound.
