New PSU is loud

Hi,
I'm not very techy so please bear with me. My HP Pavilion wouldn't power on last weekend so I had to take it to a repair place. They said the PSU was bad and replaced it. I got it back tonight and noticed that it now runs very loud and the fan really puts out air. I never noticed this with the last PSU. I never heard the computer running at all before.

Does this sound like something that happens with a cheap PSU, or is the fan running too fast? I don't know if I should call them back or what. The invoice only says "Power Supply 450" and it was $49.99.

Thanks for any advice.

Look to see if there is a turbo button in the back. If there is, make sure its off. If not, I would take it back and tell them its too loud and to put a different one in it.

No turbo button that I can find. I did call them back and they basically said it's supposed to sound like that and if I want a quieter one it will cost more. I've never had a computer sound this loud at home or work. Guess I'm at their mercy.

There is a really risky and unneccessary method to decrease the noise made by the PSU.
It involves opening up your PSU and dripping wax on some components.
It is not recommended but if you want to go ahead with it, I can ask the Member(I don't know the exact method, this member was the one who told me about it) to guide you through it.

You got me....

I know why they use wax on electrical components.... but for sound quietening is new to me.

Other than having a noisy fan in the PSU I want to know how the wax trick is going to quieten the PSU.

Aastii knows how to do it.

Op, sounds to me like they replaced your PSU with a really cheap one,What brand/make is it?

@ Nevakonaza, it doesn't say on the invoice. Just says "Power supply 450." I left them a message but they haven't called back. I will ask them when I get a hold of them. (Unless there's a way to find this in my system info?) I'm beginning to think that is the problem also.

Open the side of the case and look on the psu itself for a model number. Most of the time, repair places use generic psu's.

I would have liked it to be explained how it would work.
Since no response to my question how wax can quieten a psu I will put it down to a silly comment stated here.
