New Psu

hey,

im buying a new PSU and im confused.

1. does a PSU some with all the needed cables?
2. how will i know i have the correct cables/psu for my system, is their anyway of checking wot cables i need?

most every good power supply will have everything you need. if you give me the budget, i can give you links to good psu's that everyone likes
 
yes everything will work. the only time a psu wouldnt work is if you had a pci-e video card and your psu didnt have a pci-e cable. (but pretty much every new psu has at least one of those)
 
lol, to be honest im upgrding an old system, so i need a cable for pci, will this be included or could i just use my current one?
 
well how old is this system lol, does it have pci-e ports? and on porlby 95% of powersupply now have everything youll need for todays computers
 
it has a celeron D 2.66ghz, a spare PCI slot, 512 mb of ram, a DVD-RAM drive and a 40gb HDD (no really), i want to put in a x1300 grahics card - so it can do sumthing, but i need more power, hence y i need the power supply
 
He could quite easily be looking for a PCI video card, which would not use a PCI-E power connector. In any case, ATX power supplies are all compatible. If your motherboard has an old 20-pin main connector, make sure you get a 20 or 20+4 pin connector. You can overhang a 24-pin connector, but it's an unnecessary complication. Likewise, if you have a 24-pin connector, you're best to get a 20+4 or 24pin main connector.

I can't find much info at all on the included PSU, but it looks like it's not a standard size, meaning the unit won't physically fit in the case. You may want to contact IBM to see if this is the case, or if it conforms to a standard.
 
im not sure, but i had hoped to simply run the PSU outta the case (its not going n e where), all i need to know is what psus will work with the system/motherboard
 
thanx for all the help so far, i need around 300-400 watts with a budget of around $40 (im converting from pounds here, i live in the UK). It wont exactly be put under alot of stress e.g, no overclocking or power hungry components so it doesnt exactly need to be top of the range. ;)
