New Puter???

Hi guys, my puter is so old its running on steam, i was thinking of building one myself, but the time and sourcing parts...and other things, i decided against it, so a gaming puter for me...... out of the box, with an operating system, with guarantee etc, well i have been looking at this, please give me your thought on it, as i have been out of the loop for some time, im just thinking for the price its not bad.... your thought would be appreciated

I don't know what the going rate for PC's in the UK is, but that price is ATROCIOUS!
First of all:
Videocard - just built a system for my girlfriends birthday with that card. she does not play games, I chose that card for the low cost with DVI/HDMI and for playing blu-ray movies. Heaven benchmark with this videocard and an Athlon II x4 and 4gb DDR3 1333mhz is not impressive at all.
Processor - Dual-Core Athlon - I use this processor all the time in my most basic home office computer. Will not run new games well.
Motherboard - Cheap, Cheap, Cheap. This is old stock from a second rate manufacturer. It is NOT "high performance" as stated.

This computer was worth 539 Pounds (sorry I dont have the pounds sign on my keyboard) 2 years ago.

Your local bigbox store, or any custom builder should have an Athlon ii x4, 4gb (or more) ddr3, 1tb HDD 7200rpm, on an Asus, MSI, EVGA or Intel board, and an ATI HD57xx (minimum) in a fancy case with Windows 7 for this price.

I estimate about 50% markup on this system, and personally I do not build anything close to this spec and call it a gaming computer. This was a hardcore gamer, truly high performance, like 3 years ago.

Did you build that from a site like cyber power pc or ibuypower? If you really want the best value for performance parts I would suggest building one yourself. It is not hard at all and we can help you find all the right parts for it.

That seems like alot of money for an i3 system - whole thing should retail for about $1000 taxes in. I'd second buying parts and building yourself, or getting prices from local shops that do this kind of thing.
Other thing you might have some success with is buying a modest HP system and adding in a video card.
 
With any OEM machine you will most likely need to change out the powersupply as well. No, i would also recommend building your own. most OEM's use cheap components everywhere.
 
Ok let say ( but i work 6 days a week and get home late) apart from that i have never built one ever before and im rubbish at electric, i can build a car from scratch, but electrics ant my thing at all, im in the UK (London, so i have to source things from the UK (import tax would be a killer)

So you guys think i could build an outstanding gaming puter for around £500 (i think that's about $750 is in $$)

ok lets start the process and see what prises we get then, but im putting ALL my trust in you guys to help me source and put this jumble of bits together, i will look first and see how and how much first, so no promises yet whether i end up building it yet, i don't want to come on to you guys like im some know it all with a big wallet

Wow, gbp is lower than I remember from working at a bank 2 years ago....
In Canada, $750+ tax will get you an i3 (dual core) system with 4gb DDR3, cheap video, 1tb slow hard drive made by HP from a membership discount store (Costco), and includes keyboard, mouse (both wired) and a decent looking 22" LCD
or
An Athlon ii x4, 4gb DDR3, 1tb7200rpm hard drive, radeon hd 5750, probably no monitor

from what i've seen UK prices seem a bit high, but there's gotta be good deals around there someplace!
