Was that their Hyper X performance memory, ValueRam, or just the Kingston brand name? With the Hyper X you may have to manually set the dram timings in order to see the bios display the correct memory and speed. On the build here DDR2 800 will be seen as 667 unless that is done with the Hyper X memory.

Just Kingston brand name.

Also, would it be wise to leave in the old sticks (2 X 256 PC3200-333)) along with the new ones?

What is the model number of your memory? Perhaps I can look up the manufacturer specifications for you.

The model number is either on the memory chips or in the package the memory came in.

Edit: Also I would remove the old memory from your motherboard as it may cause system instability. If your system does run stable with the old memory, your RAM will run at the speed of the old memory chips.

The first to correct there is the memory isn't PC3200 333mhz it's DDR400 PC3200. PC2700 is DDR333. If you are matching additional 256mb dimms by Kingston namely the same memory and speed you would be simply adding to the existing memory installed. If you are going for a pair of 512mb PC3200 dimms run those in dual channel to give you a good working 1gb of memory.

I've given you your own thread.

As for your RAM, since you have a Dell there's not much you can set, it will read the SPD values and set everything by them. You may be able to set the speed to run it at in the BIOS but nothing else.

Model number KVR533D2N4K2

I removed the old chips.

Thanks.

Will the BIOS adjustment make a noticeable difference?

From the old RAM chip board: 1Rx16 PC2-3200-333-12.

You'll probably find the same for OCZ, Crucial, and other name brands as a rule. That's pretty much an industry standard seen with name brands of memory.
