I got my extra 1Gb DDR400 OCZ Performance for christmas and i thought i would enlighten you to what a jump from 512Mb up to 1.5Gb does for performance.

Boot Times:

An average taken of 3 boot sequences to windows logon screen

512Mb - 38 secs
1.5Gb - 29 secs

A drop of 9 seconds on bootup isnt that shabby....

FPS in HL2 (xmas present)

Settings- 1024x768 @32bit -everything at medium except shadows at high (yeh it sucks but look at my gfx card, needs an upgrade seriously)

The reading taken when i got to the chase at the beginning of Chapter4 - WATER HAZARD - All readins taken by "FRAPS 2.7.2"

512Mb - 34 fps (ouch)
1.5Gb - 47 fps (still ouch but slightly less painful)

And now just a general note on the fluidness in the motion of windows, faded menu effects and standard opening of desktop folders is so much faster, almost instant.... Skipping through 200+ songs in winamp playlist is instant now aswell, no 1-2 second pause between each track as it prepairs itself to play.

By far the best ever £85 GBP ive spent in a long time.

Hey, that FPS isnt that bad seeing how old that GFX card is getting! Try it on Doom 3, that is more a GFX intensive game than HL2, which is a CPU intensive (Am i right?)

I manage to get aroung 55-60FPS in Doom 3 @ 1204 x 768.

And only 512MB away from the Big 2GB :) lol

He he he, well, running my P4 2.8 at 3.5Ghz is gonna help it then. Is thre a free demo of doom 3, cos i dont really wanna go and buy it.....

And yeh, the BIG 2GB, is all my board can support so ill prob upgrade my other 512Mb stick to an identical 1Gb as i just got, it rocks so much. I was surprised at how much the boot time increased, cos i thoght it might take longer seeing as its gotta check/prime more memory than it did before......obviously not though.......

And those fps readings were done when i had virtually nothing else running, my AVG antivirus and steam running in the background..... so thats why they are quite high. I considered overclocking my gfx card like i had before but i thought forget it, too much hassle.... If it aint broke......

Unfortunately my board the Abit SG-72 was just a bit too early to support dual channel. So the best i can hope for is reaching the maximum capacity at the highest speed until i upgrade the board/cpu.

Thanks for the link, im downloading now on bittorrent at a whopping 270 Kb/sec, pretty fast.

8Gb, thats a lot, well, actually not a lot really if you think about it. Having 8Gb must be fantastic.
